Leknes Cruise
A visit to a faraway time
An MSC cruise of Northern Europe will take you to the Lofoten archipelago where it will cast anchor in the port of Leknes, a small town immersed in a context of rarified human presence, but full of shops and a commercial centre that will inspire you to go shopping.
From here you can explore the beauties of the Lofoten, a destination for climbers and skiers from around the world who can tackle off-piste slopes that seem to end directly into the bay’s waters that craft the coasts of the islands.
For an excursion that gives you a taste of the beautiful sites of the area, go to Nappskaret from where you can admire the view from above and then proceed to Vikten, a village at the foot of the Marbakken, where you can purchase ceramics and glassware of local production, and reach Nusfjord, an ancient fishing and market village, with its old emporium and relive times of old.
You can then reach Flakstad and its Russian wooden church with the onion shaped dome, still used for summer concerts, and then return to the seaside and take a stroll on the Ramberg beach. If you want to literally enter the world of the Vikings who have inhabited and ruled these lands for centuries, visit Borg where the largest Viking home was discovered, an 83 metre long building which was probably the residence of one of the most important chiefs of the region.
In the Borg museum you can admire the Viking style, architecture and decorations of the homes while a replica of one of their ships is anchored in the nearby bay.
