MSC Meraviglia goes North

MSC Meraviglia has been exploring the wonders of the Mediterranean for its inaugural season but this summer sees it change location as it heads north, for cruises from Hamburg. Here’s everything you need to know and details on the range of itineraries on offer throughout its time in Northern Europe.

The ideal ship for Northern Europe

Christened in June last year by none other than the glamorous godmother of all of MSC Cruises’ ships, Sophia Loren, MSC Meraviglia, which means ‘wonder’ in Italian, certainly lives up to its name. This next generation ship is brimming with extraordinary features that offer the perfect experience at sea. It’s ideal for the variable climate of the northern regions.

The ship offers a choice of 12 distinct dining venues, from which you can enjoy a range of Mediterranean and international specialties. Entertainment on board is equally diverse, offering world-class shows, including the famous Cirque Du Soleil at Sea, a super-amusement park, sports centre and one of the most intricate and exciting water parks at sea.

Around the British Isles

If you’re one for adventures and exploring, take in the crisp Scottish air on a cruise round the British Isles. The cruise will take you to Scotland, where you’ll be able to take in magnificent landscapes and then on to Dublin, with its traditional cobbled streets and classic pubs, before calling at Cork and Southampton to complete the round-trip.

Fascinated by fjords?

Tour around stunning Molde Fjord, the northernmost city of Norway, Honningsvag, or feel invigorated by Trondheim, where you mustn't miss the 11th-century Nidarosdomen Cathedral, Norway’s national sanctuary. The cruise will also call at the art nouveau town of Alesund.

To Iceland!

For those that have a hankering for more, perhaps MSC Meraviglia’s Icelandic tour could be just what you’re looking for. First there’s a stop in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, before going on to Akureyri in North Iceland, a hive of cool cafes and art galleries. Get moving in Isafjordur which has a golf course and iconic hiking and biking trails to offer before going on to explore the capital of Reykjavik.

A cultural journey

Finally, for city lovers, MSC Meraviglia will also offer the opportunity to experience the bustling and picturesque Northern European cities of Oslo, Nynashamn, Tallinn, St. Petersburg and Helsinki. Whether you want a shop-a-thon at every destination or to enjoy the cultural offerings Europe’s most vibrant cities, this cruise will not disappoint. Top attractions along the way include Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and Helsinki’s iconic Market Square.
