India with MSC

2018 sees the start of cruises with MSC to India. MSC Lirica, which is to be based in the Arabian Gulf next winter, will make a number of long cruises to India, including over the festive period. With an extended stay in Mumbai, and excursions available in Goa and Mangalore too, this is the chance to explore this fascinating and beautiful country from the comfort of an MSC cruise. Here’s a taste of what these destinations have to offer.

First stop: New Mangalore

Your Indian adventure will start in Mangalore where you can experience something a little more off-the-beaten-path. Spend half a day on the beach, or visit the fascinating Pilikula Artisans Village, to experience a centre of biodiversity rich in art, heritage and culture. With carpentry, sculpture and handloom work, this is a place to immerse yourself in the wide-ranging traditional cultures and practices of the area.

Onwards to Goa

Renowned for its beautiful, sprawling golden beaches, there is far more to Goa than meets the eye. A spiritual hotspot, take time to explore Goa’s hidden temples and churches, or travel through the surrounding jungle for a chance to see Indian elephants in their natural and pristine habitat. If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, spend an afternoon wandering through Margao city and truly unwind on the beach there – cool off in the turquoise waters, or just close your eyes, soak in the sun and while the day away. Whether it’s adventure or tranquillity you’re after, Goa has it all in, picturesque style.

Time to explore magnificent Mumbai

The final port of call in India will be awe-inspiring Mumbai, the front door to India. A city of unadulterated energy, this is a location to throw yourself into and savour in all its diversity. It’s a place teeming with life and never short of volume, but take some time to acclimatise and you will be thoroughly rewarded. The heart of the city contains, unarguably, some of the finest architecture India has to offer, and taking the time to explore the many bazaars and hidden temples around every corner is an experience to relish.

For an inside eye into this beautiful city, join fellow MSC guests on an excursion to the Elephanta Caves. A UNESCO world heritage site for good reason, these caves contain first-century sculptures dedicated predominantly to the Hindu god Shiva. This is a chance to explore Indian spiritual life in an intimate and personal way, getting up close to some expressions of the Hindu faith which have stood the test of time over centuries to remain as important as they ever were. After this, join up with our Masala excursion for a taste of the fragrant and authentic food of Mumbai.

From exploring the faiths of central Mumbai, to walking tours of the city, your extended stay will give you more time to experience this truly memorable city.
