Finland is home to literally thousands of lakes and islands and an incredible 75% of the country is covered in woodland and wetland. Nature-lovers on board our MSC cruise ships are bound to feel at home here.

Finns speak Finnish, although a small proportion (5%) of the population speaks Swedish, the country’s second language. As a nation, Finns are fond of the outdoors – many live in or like to regularly escape to the country, to fish on their many lakes and, of course, indulge in a healthful sauna!

For a country covered in so much forest, it is natural that wood is often present as a building material. Wooden villages and towns are common in Finland, and even those that date from the 18th and 19th centuries are well-preserved.
