A charming vacation destination in the western CaribbeanThe peninsula of Costa Maya is a charming vacation destination in the western Caribbean, close to the border with Belize. Mahahual and Xcalak are the two small, pretty villages on Costa Maya and the fishing village of Mahahual is particularly delightful with soft sandy beaches, ‘palapas’ (thatched buildings), an off-shore coral reef as well good bars, restaurants, and shops. The cruise terminal at Costa Maya is very recent which means that this true vacation destination remains un-spoilt and uncrowded. Our diverse selection of excursion packages reflects the many different things that there are to do here. To really get away from it all, you could spend your time off ship enjoying water sports such as snorkelling and diving, which are renowned here, and we can help you get the best deals on these activities. If you prefer to remain on land, why not leave the luxury of your MSC cruise liner for a captivating visit to some of the world’s lesser-known Maya ruins; Costa Maya is home to many Mayan archaeological sites, including the Kohunlich ruins, set in lush jungle with stunning temples and the intriguing, intricately carved ‘Pyramid of the Masks’. Other world-class Mayan ruins are found at Dzibanche near Mahahual, and in the city of Chacchoben, which dates back to 350 A.D. The newness of developments here means that Costa Maya is tailor-made to welcome cruise passengers; from the fun ‘swim-up’ bars to the great facilities and beautiful island surroundings, you will enjoy the holiday feel as soon as you disembark. |
