The BVI is made up of lesser-known 60 paradisiacal islands that the local tourist board likes to call ‘nature’s little secrets’. Characterised by tropical island perfection, the BVI are renowned for their white sandy beaches and crystalline blue waters.

Governed by the English monarch, English is the language here, and the local currency is the US dollar. The lush landscapes of Tortola are a blend of appealing beaches and coves with more mountainous terrain inland.

Remains of a primeval rain forest are even found on the higher plains, although the island is drier than many other Caribbean islands. Road Town has an island feel, with traditional architecture and exceptionally friendly residents. It is worth venturing further afield and exploring neighbouring Virgin Islands, such as Jost Van Dyke and Norman Island.
